Deferring a Gift to BYC Foundation

This information is presented to encourage BYC/ BYCF members to include the Foundation in their estate plans. This pamphlet is designed to illustrate how easy it is to include the Foundation in one’s estate and leave a lasting legacy.

Bequests

Making a gift to BYCF in your will is the most common type of planned gift. You can give a specific sum or property or a percentage of your estate.

Stipulating a bequest in your will is easy! Here is what we suggest: “To pay to the BYC Foundation, Ottawa, ______% of the residue of my estate or the sum of $______.”

Life Insurance

A gift of life insurance is a simple and thoughtful way to make a gift to BYCF. Insurance allows you to make a modest gift now for a significant gift in the future – and premiums are tax deductible.

In addition, paid up life insurance policies can be transferred to the “BYC Foundation, Ottawa, ON.” A quick online search of Life Insurance Change of Ownership and Beneficiary will yield examples of the forms to be completed.

Alternatively, the BYC Foundation can be made of the beneficiaries of a life insurance policy. Please consult your life insurance advisor for the necessary forms.

Charitable Gift Annuities

Charitable gift annuities enable you to make an immediate gift to BYCF and receive guaranteed income for life.

Charitable Remainder Trusts and Gifts of Residual Interest
This gift is invested providing an ongoing income to the donor with the capital going to BYCF upon death. Residual interest gifts allow you to donate the asset today (for example, residence, art, investment property) today and enjoy the use of it for the rest of your life with the gift going to BYCF upon death.

Registered Retirement Savings Plans/ Registered Retirement Income Funds
All or a portion of the accumulated funds in a RRSP/RRIF can be used to make a gift to the BYC Foundation. Please call your investment advisor for t he necessary forms and the proper way for the forms to be completed.
